On 10 April, Year 12 student, Angus, spoke at the Queensland Family and Child Commission's (QFFC) Youth Summit about his experience of living in care. Contributing to the summit's focus on youth voice and the "Valued, loved and safe" domain of the ARACY Nest Wellbeing Framework, Angus shared his insights aimed at helping decision-makers better understand what young people need from the care system.
His speech was described as powerful, and it has already led to further opportunities to advocate for change. Angus has been invited to speak with the Minister for Child Safety, Amanda Camm, in the near future and has been approached about other engagements, reinforcing his growing confidence that his lived experience matters and that he can use his voice to help improve outcomes for young people in care.
We are incredibly proud of Angus and the impact he is making. His courage, leadership and willingness to share his lived experiences is creating a real change for young people across Queensland. Angus continues to show what it means to use your voice with purpose - and our College community couldn't be prouder of the difference he is making.
