Saint Mary’s Catholic College Celebrates Whole‑School Transformation Award at Global Writer’s Toolbox Conference

On Friday 8 May 2026, Saint Mary's Catholic College Principal, Ms Carmel O'Brien, was recognised on the global stage at the Writer's Toolbox Global Conference, receiving the prestigious First Award - Whole School Transformation Award.

This awards honours schools that demonstrate outstanding transformation and significant impact on teachers and young people. Ms O'Brien was celebrated as a leader who has led by example through active participation in conferences and workshops, driven a staged whole-school implementation of Writer's Toolbox, and transformed writing outcomes across all year levels. She was also recognised for inspiring staff and students through her passion, expertise and belief, and for achieving remarkable cultural change within a rural school setting.

The award was announced with acknowledgement of her leadership in fostering culture of excellence, shifting attitudes towards writing, and delivering impressive outcomes in a rural context.

In accepting the award, Ms O'Brien emphasised that the achievement belongs to the entire staff of Saint Mary's Catholic College. She recognised the collective effort, commitment and shared belief that have made this transformation possible.
