Sport

At Saint Mary's we encourage our students to participate in the various sporting activities. We inspire our students to pursue their sporting interests, whether for participation and exercise or have dreams to become an elite sports person in their chosen field.

Saint Mary's Sports program continues to develop a strong philosophy that is based on:

  • Commitment
  • Determination
  • Courage
  • persistence

We believe that sport plays a major role in our students' physical development as well as creating a sense of team spirit, respect and dignity that can permeate into the classroom.

Sport at Saint Mary's falls under two categories, Curricular Sport, which is timetabled for every year level, from Prep to Year 10 and Co-curricular Sport which encompasses a range of different types of Sports.

The College facilitates the following carnivals, annually: House Swimming Carnival, for students aged 10 years and up; House Cross Country, for students Prep to Year 12 and the Interhouse Athletics Carnival for all students from Prep to Year 12. From these in-school sporting events, our students may be eligible for selection,  representing the College at District Carnivals. It is from representation at District level, that students maybe selected for Regional, then State and National levels.

The College offers a range of opportunities for our students to participate in Co-curricular sports. Some of these are, but not limited to: Rugby, Touch Football; AFL; Netball; Futsal and Volleyball. Students are also given the opportunity to trial for South Burnett and Wide Bay in various sports.

In the Primary school, Summer and Winter sports carnivals are held with a focus on participation and fun.

Sport can positively impact students and their outlook on life, Saint Mary's promotes and encourages a strong influence in the sport and physical activity.

Netball

Our College participates in the QISSN Netball Carnival each June school holidays. This competition offers students in Years 7 to 12 the opportunity to develop friendships and participate in a sport like netball, at a state level and has continued to be very popular.  QISSN has become a tradition for many students over the years and the College has achieved success at a number of carnivals.
